Alex Palou to test for McLaren F1 Team after transfer from Chip Ganassi to McLaren Racing

McLaren racing announced the signing of 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou, who will make the change at the end of the current season. Palou will end the year with Chip Ganassi Racingbefore becoming a McLaren IndyCar driver.

Palou became the very first Spanish champion of the NTT IndyCar Serieswhere the 25-year-old won three races and picked up eight podium finishes en route to the crown, in only his second season racing in the championship.

His time at McLaren will also have a massive effect on the McLaren F1 Team, with Palou to join the team’s testing program once the season is over. As part of the program, Palou will test former McLaren F1 cars, for example, the MCL35M that his fellow IndyCar driver Colton Herta tested last week.

Palou is “extremely excited” to join McLaren, where he loves being able to drive an F1 car.

“I am extremely happy to join the driver list of such an iconic team like McLaren. I am delighted to be able to show what I can do behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car and to see what doors it can open. I want to thank everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing for all they have done for me.
