Red Bull to look different in Turkey as team pays tribute to Honda
Max Verstappen’s Red Bull team will sport a special livery as a tribute to engine partner Honda during the Turkish Grand Prix this weekend.
Verstappen, who is just two points ahead of Drivers’ Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, and teammate Sergio Perez will drive in predominantly white colors with a touch of red – a nod to the livery used when Richie Ginther won. Honda’s first Formula 1 victory at the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix.
Honda is leaving F1 at the end of the year, and this weekend was slated to be their home race in Suzuka, Japan, before the event was canceled due to coronavirus restrictions.
Honda propelled Red Bull to 13 wins in four seasons.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said: “We were all looking forward to giving the Japanese Honda fans a chance to celebrate our extremely successful relationship in Formula 1, back home at Suzuka.
“With the race a victim of the pandemic, we just couldn’t let the weekend go by without paying tribute to Honda and its incredible home fans by bringing a bit of its heritage to Istanbul.
“The livery chosen for our cars pays tribute to Honda’s remarkable track record in F1 and I hope we can give the fans another victory in these legendary colors this weekend.”
